Placement  start  date  (approx):  July  2008.  Placement  duration:  12  months.  JOB  DESCRIPTION  –  DUTIES  AND  RESPONSIBILITIES:  Junior  Software  Engineer  within  IDN-Core  Development.  The  activities  involved  are  wide-ranging,  including:  *System  and  hardware  qualification  platform  testingn  *Minor  software  development  *Development  support  to  operations  groups  *Web  publishing  of  key  system  and  software  information  DEPARTMENT’S  ROLE:  Divisional  Technology  Group  (DTG)  has  entered  an  exciting  new  era,  fostering  a  culture  of  excellence,  and  creating  a  working  environment  that  promotes  a  customer-centric  approach  in  everything  we  do.  IDN-Core  Development  (part  of  DTG)  is  responsible  for  the  technology  that  underpins  Reuters  real-time  financial  information  services,  in  particular  Reuters  global  Integrated  Data  Network  (IDN).  IDN  provides  real-time  financial  information  and  news  stories.  At  peak  times,  IDN  processes  well  in  excess  of  100,000  data-updates  per  second.  PERSON  SPECIFICATION  –  REQUIRED  SKILLS  AND  EDUCATION:  Essential:  *Effective  team  worker  *Self-motivated  and  able  to  work  under  own  initiative  *Good  interpersonal  and  communication  skills  *Good  problem  diagnosis  and  solving  skills  *MS  Office,  particularly  Excel  *Good  organisation  and  time  management  skills  Desirable:  *.NET  experience  *C++  experience  *Web  applications  –  MS  FrontPage  *Basic  knowledge  of  network  topologies.
