BIG (and Huada in a historic perspective) has made significant contributions to the fields of genomics and biotechnology in China by its excellent scientific and technological innovations and achievements in the past eight years. From the participation of the International Human Genome Project (HGP) to the independent completion of indica rice genome sequence maps and from the silkworm genome project with domestic collaborators to the effort in the national campaign against SARS, all these facts demonstrate that BIG has established itself in the world scientific community.
